Blueberries -- a nutritious snack

Blueberries are awesome fruits of great nutritional value. Even with their tiny size, they are packed with nutrients and minerals. In fact, Blueberries have been recognized as fruits with the highest antioxidant activity. Some notable benefits of Blueberries include memory improvement and healthy aging.

I usually eat this while watching TV or as a snack on its own. I also combine a handful of blueberries with banana, strawberries and milk to create a refreshing smoothie, which is especially very refreshing in the summer months!!

I bet you didn't know these things about the Blueberries!

Here are some trivia on this fruit: Blueberries are first white, then they turn red and finally become blue, making them an All-American berry.

When choosing your blueberries, pick those that are plump, big, round, dent free and blue. Do not pick blueberries that are not ripe yet because these fruits do not ripen any further after they are harvested. The bigger the fruit, the better. Bigger usually means sweeter in Blueberry terms.

Don't worry about the silvery sheen you see on the berries because that is just the Blueberry's way of protecting itself from the sun. I usually store my berries in the refrigerator and they last a week or two. Rinse your fruits before eating, even if they say that they are grown organically.

Enjoy this delicious snack and reap its nutritious antioxidant properties!
